The work refers to Sigmund Freud’s ‘Madonna/mother-whore complex’, which is also seen as a binary perception of women by a patriarchal system, which is heavily used by mass culture. The neon sign with two words ‘whore’ and ‘mother’ flash alternately, forming the phrase ‘or other’. The two self-portraits are a playful trial of those two roles on myself in search of the other.
